The enigmatic figure known as the Wanderer shrouds himself in anonymity, avoiding introductions to ordinary folks who will never truly know him. He has long cast aside worthless emotions and lives solely for his own pursuits. He embraces the title of "Wanderer," possessing no home, no family, and no destination, much like the fleeting breeze that traverses the world.
In the past, the Wanderer had many names, each corresponding to a unique status he held at the time. However, those chapters of his life have largely faded into obscurity. His existence began hundreds of years ago when he emerged as a puppet, born without a name but bearing a small golden feather as proof of his identity. He resided within the Shakkei Pavilion, disconnected from the world, surrounded by beauty but devoid of perception.
A compassionate samurai named Katsuragi stumbled upon him and rescued him from his prison. This act of kindness brought the puppet to Tatarasuna, where he encountered the warmth of humanity. At that time, he was naive and filled with goodwill towards humans. Katsuragi recognized the significance of the golden pinion on the puppet's person but chose not to reveal the Shakkei Pavilion's truth, instead fabricating a story about finding the young man on Nazuchi Beach.
Tatarasuna, a bustling and lively place, became a repository of cherished memories for the puppet. There, he tasted the essence of humanity and felt a sense of belonging. Katsuragi, Mikoshi Nagamasa, Niwa, Miyazaki, and other individuals from Tatarasuna became his friends, teaching him life skills and knowledge. They even offered him a name, "Kabukimono," a term denoting those who stood out with vibrant attire and peculiar behavior. He embraced this name as it marked his distinctiveness within Tatarasuna.
However, as he no longer aspired to be fully human, he eventually discarded the name "Kabukimono." He departed Tatarasuna and embarked on a journey, eventually joining the Harbingers and earning the title "The Balladeer" from the Tsaritsa. In those moments of chaos and conflict, he found solace in his new name.
Tatarasuna's peaceful existence was disrupted by the arrival of the Akame Clan and a mechanic named Escher from Fontaine. Their collaboration led to improved forging techniques, but it also triggered a series of unfortunate events. The central furnace in Tatarasuna became unstable, releasing black gas that affected the people working there. It transformed the essential processes of forging and smelting into deadly hazards.
As the highest authority in Tatarasuna, Niwa initiated an information blackout and sought aid from Inazuma City. However, those who set sail for help never returned, sowing fear among Tatarasuna's residents. The Wanderer, unaware of the evolving crisis, attempted to secure assistance from the Shogun and Yae Miko, but his efforts yielded limited success.
Ultimately, he took it upon himself to enter the core zone, shutting down the furnace to avert disaster. Although he disappeared from Tatarasuna without a trace, the memories of his time there lingered, especially the celebratory dance performed with the people on the day Mikoshi Nagamasa successfully forged his great blade. Like a feather in the wind, he departed from their lives, journeying to unknown destinations.
